Apple iPad Air 2 and iPad Mini 4 is getting into people’s hands and it looks like the Apple A9 processor is much faster than the Apple A8 chip that is used in iPad Mini 4 and iPad Mini 3.
With the help of Apple A9 and faster RAM, iPad Air 2 scored 2400 in geekbench benchmark. The iPad Mini 4 got 1720 in the same benchmark app. The Mini 3 and Mini 2 got 1350 in geek bench.
So the Apple A8 is a pretty sad jump in terms of performance and the Cupertino giant would have applauded more if it had equipped the iPad Mini 4 with this very CPU.
So in order to see benefits over iPad Mini 3, you must run a lot of apps in background to experience smoother multitasking. However single applications are not going to go much faster.
Clearly the iPad Mini 2 users will be hard pressed to upgrade to the Mini 4, unless you cannot live without split view which does not make much sense on such a small screen.
