Recently, Apple rolled out iOS 5 beta 3 and just a day after, the jailbreak community released its jailbreak. While I am yet to find annoying bugs it is still not recommend for the causal user. However, if you cannot wait for the final release, follow these instructions to jailbreak your iPad.
Note that the jailbreak is not compatible with iPad 2. Jailbreak for the newer model running iOS 4.3.3 was released sometime back
If you are running iOS 4.3.3 on your iPad 1, follow either of the jailbreak guides
First, you will need to download iOS 5 for your iPad from the t0rrentz (deliberately spelled wrongly). After installing it to your iPad, you will need to download Redsnow 0.9.8b2 from the links given at the bottom of this post. Start Redsnow and browse for the iOS 5 firmware.
Click next and redn0w will take few seconds to jailbreak the firmware. It will then tell you that it has successfully done its job. Now you will shown some options – select Cydia and click next. Just select ‘just boot tethered’ and then you will asked to put it into DFU mode.
For that, hold the power button for 1 second and then while holding it, press the home button as well. Then, after few seconds, while holding the home button, release the power button. Installation should begin now.
It shall be noted that right now, tethered jailbreak is supported, i.e, you will have to jailbreak it everytime you reboot it.
