There is a new amazing iPad cydia tweak available at the Cydia store that enables cellular calling on your iPad 3G and iPad 2 3G models. Quite unsurprisingly, this tweak will also allow you to do text messaging (which is also a cellular feature).
This tweak / addon is done by the same folks that added the ability to do Facetime over 3G (this functionality will be a part of iOS 5). To get it on your iPad, you will have to make sure that it is jailbroken. Right now, the latest version available are iPad 4.3.3 which can be jailbroken by using either of the following methods. Note – iPad 2 jailbreak is still in the works and will be released soon.
Once you have a jailbroken iPad, just start Cydia on your iPad and search for phoneit. After that you will need to hit on ‘purchase’ and shell out 20 dollars in order to download it. So, is it worth it?
If you ask me, the answer is no. I am perfectly happy with iPad and have no intention of making calls or sending SMSes from it. I will continue to use my windows phone (opens our sister site) to make calls and send messages to my loved ones.
